I've assumed that they didn't want to expend the effort and since 32-bit 
stuff can be made to run on 64-bit then they have a viable workaround. 
Unfortunately for us, getting it working as 32-bit is painful. 
Hopefully, with java as a GPLed product this sort of stuff will be less 
likely.
