Ah okay.

Out of similar desires, I set up PPTP on a Linksys WRT-54GS with the 
DD-WRT firmware to get some Windows machines into a network, and it 
worked flawlessly...

Not super high security (PPTP has flaws, big ones), but it was "good 
enough" for what was being done on that setup, and for the cost of 
what... a $50 wireless router.

I don't know how many machines you have nor how many could go through 
your typical WRT-54GS before it would roll over and die, but just a 
thought... something to try, and cheap -- er, uh... I'm learning to say 
"frugal" -- as it gets...
