[lug] Well-supported USB webcam

Hello,

This may one of the slowest responses ever seen on this list - but I have recently played with a Logitech 9000 USB camera and had pretty good luck with it. Tested it on OpenSUSE 11 beta3 and all I had to do was load the uvcvideo module and the camera immediately became fully functional for Skype.

The syslog reported:
drivers/media/video/usbvideo/quickcam_messenger.c: Logitech Quickcam Messenger USB v0.01

Hope this is still useful for somebody...

On several occasion I've dealt with the Axis cameras and they were quite
good. They aren't USB though, they are all Ethernet. They run Linux
internally, and provide an IP interface, and I've only heard good things
about them. They start at around $500, but for full pan/tilt/zoom expect
to spend over a grand. They will do PoE for power.

Pretty much every USB camera I've tried has lead to pain and suffering.
