The latter seems to have some open source software for healthcare.
http://www.openemr.net/index.jsp - medical record software

Which version of Linux to use will draw a large number of suggestions.
Since you have a specific set of software application needs I suggest
you first find that software and then check which Linux distributions
they recommend.
