As usual, Europe is taking a lead in the fight against software
patents. Read the message below for details.

And comments on the situation in the US would be helpful. See also

Subject: Telecoms Package Vote Sept24 - stop software patents petitions

....

There are two current issues. We would like to ask you for your help.

  Telecoms Package
  ----------------

The "Telecoms Package" directives will be voted in European Parliament
in Brussels on September 24th, 11h30AM, in plenary session. Please call
conservatives, social democrats and liberals MEPs (Members of the
European Parliament) to to follow Amendment 138 (Split vote; including
Part 3!), 166, 133. And to reject every notation of "lawful/unlawful"
content. And to reject Amendment 34 and 134.

  New petitions against software patents
  --------------------------------------

There is an effort to discuss a text for a new European petition to stop
software patents at

<http://stopsoftwarepatents.eu/draft>

We would appreciate your comments on it.

The 24th of September has been declared the World Day Against Software
Patents. Read more at

<http://stopsoftwarepatents.org>

There is also a world wide petition on this site.

Thankfully,
