Fair enough.  I see your point about custom code being better written
than stuff built from a pile of libraries with unnecessary code in them.

But... this would seem to indicate (on a very grand scale) that each
piece of software NEEDS to be custom code to be "svelt", and if that's
the case, there's a lot of business people out there sorely
underestimating the labor and testing costs of "software".

I might even agree with your point, seriously... that custom software
written to do a very specific job is always the best code.  But... OUCH
on the costs... how would anyone afford to use computers if that were
the case?

It also seems to lead back to my wondering whether computing technology
is doomed to remain stuck in "mediocrity" forever.  Can't afford not to
write "perfect" custom code, and can't afford to do it either... so the
answer lies somewhere in the always-broken, never works 100% right,
middle ground?
