That's true, but only because Linux doesn't have a nice snapshotting
file-system.  If you use "--inplace" with rsync, and then take a snapshot
when it's done, you get very similar results to rdiff-backup.

As you say though, it does make a huge difference in the amount of space
required.

The down side of rdiff-backup is you can't really keep multiple ages of
backups (7 daily, 7 weekly, 7 monthly), without having a full copy of the
system for each of them.  This is where the snapshots really work out well.

backuppc will do file merging between backups, so if you have the same file
on multiple machines, it only stores one copy.  It also compresses the
files for storage, but a large log-file that grows a little every day will
use lots of space.
