It's common to see older 2.4 GHz non-digital analog cordless phones 
completely trash 802.11x in the 2.4 GHz band.  A leaky microwave oven 
will also, while also being a hazard to humans.

The cordless phone thing is quite common. The solution is to go back to 
900 MHz (often no digital "security" with those -- if you call it 
security) or on up to 5.8 GHz (which in theory could then bother 802.11n)...

(If I'm thinking right at 1:18 AM...)

A friend cleaned up a ton of 802.11x problems by buying his neighbor a 
new cordless phone system, long ago. :-)
