[lug] Problematic Debian server

A common cause of this is something like filesystem corruption which
causes most distributions to report errors to the console and stop at
single user mode so you can correct the issue.  Continuing to multi-user
mode may fail or make things worse.

I'm guessing because it's remote and you have no network access you're
not seeing that, so some eyes on the box will be required.

Bring a cdrom/usb stick so you can boot from a rescue disk if you need
to do some serious work!
