SCM (Source Control Management) Engineer (IT Configuration Management)


SUMMARY (Summarize overall goal of resource)

The SCM Engineer works with QA team and development teams to establish the
file structure of the project Source Control libraries. They ensure all
project source materials are maintained in the Source Control library
including software source code and project documentation.  The Engineer
administers the Source Control tool providing maintenance and
troubleshooting when necessary. They help coordinate the establishment of
project environments. Includes working with development teams and System
Administrators to define and document project environment requirements, to
set up project servers, and to deploy project and 3rd party software.  They
document, schedule, and executes project software builds. The overall
objective is to validate the source control structure and process.





*DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES **(Be specific on actual duties/responsibilities)*

1.    Establish file structure of project source control libraries in source
control system.

2.    Ensure optimal file structure to support parallel development

3.    Develop necessary custom code to support development in source control
system

4.    Support user interfaces into source control (IDE integrations, Windows
Explorer, etc..)

5.    Support integrations between source control, build and deploy
process(es)

6.    Support and train development staff on usage of source control
solution

7.    Manage merge process for source control libraries/repositories





*MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ABILITIES **(List skills, software, communication
etc...)*

·         Possess expertise AND hands-on working knowledge of Subversion
1.6.x (Collabnet supported version), TortoiseSVN 1.6.x

·         A team player with excellent written and verbal communication
skills and strong organizational skills. Must have a service-oriented
attitude with excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to
work independently, self-motivated, and highly focused.

·         Ability to thrive in a changing environment. Ability to manage
multiple projects with multiple priorities.

·         A strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and
software development methodologies (requirements gathering, analysis and
design, development tools, version control, testing and QA, and deployment).


·         Well-honed SCM skills and expert understanding of the Software
Configuration Management. Ability to perform complex SCM tasks and ability
to mentor or train others in the configuration management effort.
