If its crazy to prefer to avoid being nickle and dimed to death at the
expense of not being able to read the OMG notice from my BFF while I
drive, then I'm crazy too.

What does he use for voice input?  I'd be interested in seeing a photo
of that setup.

What I'd like to see is a handheld with wifi and maybe a video camera -
no GSM.  Put Linux and Ekiga on there and do VoIP only.  It's perfect:
no talking while driving (unless you can war drive, I guess).  

The Gumstix Overo might fit the bill but it's still kinda pricey for a
DIY.  Looks like the Air or Fire would be a starting point.  Still need
a display to go with it, though.
