Well, you are probably booting into runlevel 3.  Look in /etc/rc.d/rc3.d at 
the S* scripts.  It runs those in order.

I believe you can also press "I" at the start of the boot process to get an 
interactive boot process which will ask you if you want to start each service 
in turn.
