You may also want to consider an FPGA board. Some of these come with an ARM
CPU included. If you know your logic design these can be great for audio
because efficiency is maximized, latency is minimal and power use is also
minimal. Bits go in. Bits get munged. Bits come out. It is like a DSP but
even better because it is custom-designed for your algorithm.
