No. Gnome 3 switched to using gnome-shell which acts as an X.org 
compositor, or a Wayland compositor. It handles all the jobs that Compiz 
and Metacity used to do.

Not always very well though. I think it was a bad idea to combine 
composition, input handling and the application launcher in the same 
program. You can end up with huge lags from disk IO the first time you 
open the launcher, and if you just hit Windows and start typing you can 
get duplicated letters and other weird input corruption.
