Well, just informational, as to root cause, this is in logwatch this AM:

 usb 1-10.2: device descriptor read/64, error -110 ...: 1 Time(s)
 usb 1-10.2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 ...: 1 Time(s)
 usb 1-10.2: device not accepting address 10, error -71 ...: 1 Time(s)
 usb 1-10.2: device not accepting address 11, error -71 ...: 1 Time(s)
 usb 1-10.2: device not accepting address 8, error -71 ...: 1 Time(s)

The -71 I'm taking as a cascade error. The -110 is "insufficient power",
which is silly for plugging in a thumb drive, so something else is
happening inside the case. It does lead more credence to the possibility
of a power supply issue, though I think I'd be seeing other odd behavior,
e.g. stability.
