Not sure when I'll get to that. For now, I'm trying to get my on-board
audio working again. I'm about to boot Xubuntu from a USB drive, and see if
I have sound.

That does seem to be a hallmark of the Schiit audio company.

In the Arch forum link I included, the poster shows a Schiit device
functioning, but didn't post the kernel version.

Right now, only the "dummy". Prior to upgrading the kernel, it showed my
on-board audio.

The problem (on-board audio device not present) persists even when I boot
the previous kernel.
