[lug] BLUG email is working again. Thanks for your patience!

I'm happy to say it would be surprising with BLUG.

I wish it were surprising when any group nominally about free software casually chooses and even promotes proprietary software, but it's not, anymore.

I wish it were surprising when groups claiming free software ideals are intolerant of and abusive to the weirdos who have done the work to define, protect, and promote it. But, that's not surprising, anymore, either. Still, it's disappointing.

BLUG, though, seems to be populated exclusively by smart, kind, principled people. I know that's technically impossible; we're all some blend of enlightened and brutal. Still, BLUGgers seem more likely to delight than to disappoint.

Today seems like a good day to say, "You don't need to kill your heroes."

... They're going to die, anyway. You can choose to be kind while you and they are passing through life.

I was sucked in until you said, "the Outlook servers that power this list." Right, a Linux list hosted on a M$ server. Uh huh... Then I noticed the date.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you know, BLUG Email is working again.

Happy to say that our annual internet cleaning which happens about this time each year went very well, for us.

Completed the usual tasks:
- Flushed out all the incoming email which was from blacklisted domains
- Cleared out lots of outgoing email to recipients that no longer exist
- Put in some new anti-spam filters based on recent covid related scams
- Upgrade the Outlook servers that power this list.

Unfortunately some other companies had a rough day. Microsoft Azure got most of the way through its annual cleaning, but the high pressure fluid used to clean one of their 96" main pipes into their Seattle data center burst and they're still trying to repair it. Publicly, they're reporting "DNS issues". Best wishes to them to get things fixed up before dark.

Thanks [ https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/spring-cleaning/ | again ] for your patience in this important downtime.
