[lug] (Raspberry Pi) media center control?

I'd like to have some sort of computer attached to my stereo for playing
some music, mostly audio files which my piano teacher sends me, but also an
occasional youtube and perhaps even a more occasional video (if I find a
suitable way to see it, e.g. a mini projector such as
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B089W4YNTV/

I thought to use a Raspberry Pi for the purpose, which I can easily place
anywhere (close to the projector if doing video), rather than a full
fledged computer for which I have no room. However I don't want the hassle
to have monitor, keyboard, mouse etc, for which I have no room either, so I
thought to use https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00I5SW8MC/ which will do, but
it's another item to buy, charge, track, lose and break.... plus the
projector becomes essential rather than optional.
I could avoid permanent I/O devices by controlling the thing via ssh from
another Linux computer, and that will do... but I need to go into another
room where I have the computer.

Questions before I spend too much time on dead ends:

1) is a Raspberry Pi 3 adequate for this?

2) is there an Android app which decently works as an ssh client, including
X-tunneling?

3) would it be perhaps better to use an old Android device instead for
which probably both 1) and 2) would work better/easier? As a reference
point, my current phone will work fine for this and I could run the cables
to a place where it'd be convenient for some of these use (couch) but
that's too far from the other place (piano) where I actually need to
interact with it more often (start / stop / change tempo and other piano
practice related activities).

4) other ideas which I may not have considered? (e.g. using the phone with
bluetooth audio, but are there inexpensive and small receivers which can be
hooked to a regular, old-fashioned stereo system? how about video? I guess
HDMI cable is ok, since I don't need much video from the piano and phone
itself can be ok).
