I like the freedom too.

I think I interact with a computer in two modes: non-technical 'human'
mode and technical 'coder' mode.

In human mode, I want to use a GUI file manager and skip the step of
restricting and conforming what the computer allows in order to name a
file.

In coder mode, I want to make the files as easy to work with using a
CLI script (usually Bash), so no spaces, more lowercase, more
consistent naming of repeated files and no characters that might be
interpreted by a script incorrectly.   This seems pretty natural if you
follow the 'just keep it simple (only basic text)' style.

Having to seriously slow down and think, OK I've only got 8+3 filenames
and pretty much only uppercase text, how do I keep this stuff
sensible...

Seems like such a waste of time and productivity.

The more I think about this, its more about how our expectations change
as we're exposed to better things and how we can't comprehend the past
once we've gotten beyond it.
