[lug] CGI and APACHE 1.3.9 on RH 6.1

Hello all!
I've just installed RH 6.1 and Apache 1.3.9 on a web server. 
I'm attempting to run cgi scripts and I keep coming up with a 500 internal
server error.
Now since NO scripts are running correctly I'm thinking it's a server
configuration thing. I'm relatively new at this so it could be something
simple.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what might me going on? If so please
