[lug] rcs over samba

The one issue I found using Samba with Visual Source Safe is that VSS
expects to be able to change files from RW to RO and back around again. I
found that unfortunately, the default Samba implementation uses the Force
Create mask and OR's it against the mask for a permission change. I wrote an
ugly hack to modify Samba to allow making files read-only. I think it only
changed one file. If you think this may be the problem, let me know and I
can post it.

Subject: [lug] rcs over samba
hi guyz...
i've got this prob with rcs under linux...
we're doing s/w development here. the source codes
lie in a central repository on a winnt server (almost
everyone else is using windoz here due to lack of know
how and some inconveniences when it comes to linux).
rcs is used for access to this repository, and the rcs
files are accessible via smb shares.
using a linux box, i need to mount the share folder.
no probs with that. even as a normal user. i can do
cp, mv, rm, chown, chmod, etc just fine under the smb
mounted folder. but when i try to check out a file, it
says permission denied and saves a file in that folder
with a filename of _9Ag53sd or something of equivalent.
otherwise, the file name would be a ,helloworld.c, file.
in short, ci co isn't doing it's job as expected.
do note that i'm using a normal user account. using root,
everything is absolutely clean.
thanks in advance.
btw, merry christmas and a very happy new year to all you good pple!
regards,
khchan
