This came through the BRLCAD <http://ftp.arl.mil/brlcad/> maling list
today. I just took a look at the URL and it does seem interesting.

Greetings all,
I thought I'd point any interested parties in the general direction of the
VTK, "visualization toolkit" which isn't exactly modelling in the same
sense as is BRLCAD, but which is quite the amazing resource. See
http://www.kitware.com/vtk.html
What had been missing from it was a decent front-end such as BRLCAD's
tmged. Apparently some students in Belgium have written a nice front-end
for VTK, which may be seen at
http://www.esat.kuleuven.ac.be/~vtkedit/index.shtml
Once I get another huge drive, I'll probably build the system and let you
know what I think about it. VTK is just huge, basically an extension of
Tcl/Tk with some astoundingly large shared libraries, but it's great for
building nice MESA-based renderings from a ridiculously wide-ranging set
of input classes.
BRLCAD's software designers might want to grab this and play with it to
see if they get any ideas.
Cheers,
Be kind to your neighbors, even though they be transgenic chimerae.
