1. This is a somewhat unusual job title for us but this job is with a company
who does
IS/IT based Trade Shows. They need someone who understands the technology
and
the trade show business.
Event Director Job Description
The responsibilities of an Event Director (ED) will focus on the following
areas:
a.. Platform Development
a.. Exhibit Revenue
b.. Sponsorship Revenue
c.. Marketing and Event Promotions
d.. Event Logistics & Operations
Platform Development
Realizing that this is the most critical element of solid programs, we must
ensure that our events are built on a solid foundation. It will be the
responsibility of the Event Directors to take the lead in platform development
in their own program. This will involve the development of advisory councils,
working with associations, tech councils and other key partners in the
traditional manner. In addition, they must also work with their Regional
Manager to strategically identify and establish relationships with the key
players in their region. Key players consist of technology manufacturers, IT
professionals, associations, tech councils, universities, government and media
partners.
Exhibit Revenue
Exhibit space will continue to drive the majority of ITEC revenue, thus
achievement of their revenue goal will be the primary objective. Each ED will
be responsible for leading this effort in their own event.
Sponsorship Revenue
This will be a major focus area in 1999. As our programs shift more to
"events", sponsorships become a necessity. In order for us to achieve our
potential, there must first be a belief in the ITEC product and an
understanding of our rightful place in the tradeshow industry. We are second to
no one. We have a tremendous opportunity to better merchandise our events and
sell added value through sponsorships. Each ED will work closely with their
Regional Manager to identify potential event sponsors and leading that sales
effort.
Marketing and Event Promotions
Quality attendance continues to be essential to the future success of our
events. This is achieved primarily through promotional partnerships with our
exhibitors. It is important that we understand our clients objectives as it
pertains to our events. This can be accomplished through proactive customer
profiling or "one-to-one" marketing. Throughout this process and the standard
course of conversation with our exhibitors, we must identify those who will
truly partner with us to promote the event. This includes:
a.. Ticket distribution
b.. Direct Mail
c.. Email Blasts
d.. Web Links
a.. Exhibit-Advertising Trades in Regional Publications
a.. Acquisition of mailing lists
a.. Association announcements
Event Logistics & Operations
As we continue to add new events, it is imperative that we improve the
efficiency of our work. This involves several items, not the least of which is
better communication. It will be the Event Directors responsibility to:
a.. Ensure that each of their programs meet their operational deadlines.
a.. Properly communicate all aspects of event logistics with our Operations
team.
b.. Ensure that each event in their region is collected in accordance with
ASM policy.
a.. Proven sales experience
b.. Good communication skills (both written and verbal)
c.. Demonstrated leadership qualities
d.. Creative/Entrepreneurial skill sets
e.. Objection handling skills
f.. Ability to prioritize tasks and a demonstrated ability to manage
multiple projects simultaneously
g.. Enthusiastic team player
h.. Ability to work with others to achieve goals
i.. Analytical problem solver/creative problem solver
j.. Ability to generate and maintain business base
k.. Ability to consult and advise companies on their marketing objectives
and strategies
l.. Ability to recruit new business opportunities
