The K6-2 does have MMX available, along with 3D-Now.
The difference may be in the FPU. Intel kicks major butt on the AMD K6
line on FPU operations (that's why a lot of the 3D games run better on
Intel over AMD or Cyrix). If the SETI stuff is heavy on the FPU (which I
think would be the case, given Fourier transforms), then I would look
there.
