I'm attaching Ferdinands submission below as an example.

A title and abstract is primarilly something for the marketing/scheduling
people to use in their promotional material. The abstract is just a short
summary or description of what you intend to discuss. Without a title and
abstract the schedule can only say something like:

  - Robert Harris will give a 30 minute presentation

With just a title the promotional material reads more like:

  - "Linux as a Server" by Robert Harris

With both a title and an abstract this improves to something like:

  - "Linux as a Sever" by Rober Harris,

The demand for network services continues to grow forcing the need
for faster, more powerful, and cost effective server solutions. This
presentation will discuss the merits of using Linux as a server, cost
     of entry, performance, and scaleability.

Of course, this may not be what you have in mind for your talk, but
hopefully it serves to explain the idea of the abstract. You basically
want to give people a short description of what you have to say so they
can decide if this presentation is something they want to see.

Hope this helps.
