It's a moot point - TWAIN isn't supported under Linux.

Not all of them. The work done on the UMAX scanners under SANE is pretty
solid, helped by some input from UMAX I believe. The support for UMAX in
SANE is the reason I went with UMAX. Sean might have some input about HP
support using XVScan or other tools.

I'm not sure SANE will work with USB scanners. It does work with all SCSI
scanners and a few other types as well. Generally, stay away from whatever
pseudo-scsi card is provided with the scanner and get a *real* SCSI card.
That will eliminate some of the headaches.

Note that if you'r a Gimp user and you like to stay on the bleeding edge,
you have to recompile the SANE package each time you install a new version
of Gimp. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe I'm just not doing something
right, but I end up having to rebuild SANE with each new 1.1.x release.
