Just a general comment.  When I want to know what kind of
profile one of my hosts is presenting, I use two tools (each
of which is extremely powerful by itself -- this is just one
minor use of their functionalities):

    nmap
    lsof

nmap tells me what ports are open, and lsof helps me figure out
what process is using each port (some stuff is truly obscure).
Then it's off to the man pages to study any programs new to me
that show up.

It's an interesting way to spend an hour.
