If it is intended for speakers directly, unamplified, it should be
labeled as "speaker out". If it is for feed to amplified speakers, it
will be "line out". It isn't just the output level, but the output
impedance that matters. So if on one machine the wrong output jack is
chosen, this would cause failure too, for what otherwise would appear a
working device.
