[lug] Porting a font from Mac to Linux

Rob,
For an open source computer language project called Modcap, I've 
developed a "Modcap" font using Fontographer, and saved as TrueType.
The font has 190 characters, 95 ASCII + 95 special characters (e.g. 
Greek alpha, >=, French quotes, circle-plus).

I want to port the font to Linux.

In what directory should it go?
What name should it have?
How would a program (such as emacs) gain access to it?
