Forgot to mention...you can also boot a rescue disk and mount your drive
on it like a 2nd partition. E.G., assuming sdc0 is your root partition
(it seems to be the one it thinks is missing a file), and assuming ext2:
boot to rescue
mount -text2 /dev/sdc0 [name some mount point here]

You can find Tom's rtbt rescue at:
http://www.toms.net/rb/home.html

That particular one includes scsi support, and a number of hardware
items many rescues don't seem to have.
