         How about a qualified Yes?
         While it's certainly possible to install Linux in a 1gig 
partition, you'll probably want to choose carefully how much you 
install.  I install Suse on a 2-gig on my Sony Vaio and had no problem, but 
I went well over 1gig.
         Just watch what you install, and make certain you have sufficient 
room for swap.
