Yes it does.  Thanks.  I know that I've searched for tab stuff in the past
and not found it which I why I ended up asking.  Man, I love vim.  (no
flames please. :-))

There is a setting to insert spaces when the tab key is pressed:

:set et

This will take the current width of the tab stop 
(for example :set ts=4) and insert that many spaces instead of a tab
character.

If you go into help (press F1 key or type :help), all settings are
listed.  Just search for a keyword related for what you want to do,
and there is a pretty good chance you will find something.  I don't
know the above commnad off the top of my head, but I found it by doing
a search for 'tab' in help.
