[lug] Trouble installing Debian

I can't really answer that one.  Obviously your current setup isn't
working so ...?  As far as I can tell from here your options are:

   - Change the IDE controller and see if that helps (I think you said the
     controller on the motherboard is not being used.  Maybe you should
     try using it?)

   - Try installing the new driver and see if that fixes the problem

   - Check to see if there is anything about the IDE controller in the
     system bios that might be affecting you, and turn off plug-and-play
     services, etc..  In other words, simplify the configuration as much
     as possible.

   - Bring the box to tonight's meeting.  One of us might be able to help

   - Scrutinize the bootup splash screen for any clues, do more research
     into the card and see if you can identify any special boot settings
     that might fix the problem

   - Pull out everything except the controller card and see if that helps?
