My pleasure. I didn't have time for a full-fledged
answer when I replied, but a deeper understanding of
the solution can be found in two places: the mknod(1)
man page and /usr/src/linux/Documentation/devices.txt
(which requires that the kernel source be installed).
The first describes the use of mknod and what all of
those arguments are for, and the second will help you
figure out which letters and number arguments to use.
Of course I cheated and looked at my /dev/st0 when I
responded. ;-)
