No, sorry about the confusion. This is strictly a Linux machine. I was
adding a side note when I mentioned the Windoze machine.

I receive countless numbers of MSWord-to-HTML attempts. Usually a client
will try to do it his/herself using "the feature", knowing nothing about
HTML, and then write us to ask "why it won't work". I literally spend
10-15 hours a month fixing converted docs.

Maybe there's something wrong with your version. The way it usually
arrives at my MUA is with far too much code. Some really crazy XML and
lots of (of course) anti-Netscape code.

I haven't seen the gifs. I thought it exported strictly in .bmp. But I
could very well be wrong. 

I tried what you mention above, copying from the doc and couldn't do it,
had to "Print Screen" and paste in an img editor and crop. I'll have to
try that again.

Hmmm. I just started my move to gimp from Photoshop (mac) last night. Most
of it was monitor tweaking though.

StarOffice does great with regards to the content. It opens word docs
better than Wordpad, Wordperfect, etc. But the layout is always a little
funky. After seeing this I can't rely on it.
