Does anyone here know if there is a POSIX or generally portable (among
UNIXs) means of detecting the default mta of a given system, via C
calls? Linux especially, but it would help for other non-linux versions
to have this available also. I have someone asking how to create an
auto-send app where a user asks for an account on a web page (this part
is easy), then a password is created at the server and mailed back to
the email address the user indicated (provided the email address isn't
banned or some such thing). While this generally must run on linux, it
would be helpful if it worked on solaris and a few other UNIXs (the
others are more of an afterthought). Any suggestions on this?
