[lug] gpg question

I need some GPG advice. I have read the mini-Howto and Privacy
handbooks but cant find the answer to my question there.

After last weeks nice presentation at the BLUG meeting I am exploring
GPG. I have installed it, and have now begun to testing rudimentary
aspects of GPG. After creating a key, the next thing I have done is to
try encrypting and decrypting a file (following the discussion in the
handbook) .

When I use the command

gpg --output infile.gpg --encrypt --recipient testkey at tdomain.com infile

I get the following messages.

gpg: Warning: using insecure memory!
gpg: this cipher algorithm is depreciated; please use a more standard one!

I think I understand the first message. It is due to my not having set
the permisions suid, right? I think I understand the tradeoffs
involved here.

But I am confused by the second message. I chose the default DSA/ElGamal
keypair with a 1024 bit key. What is the "deprecated" message telling
me?

The encrypted file is correctly translated back to original format
when I do the decryption and enter my passphrase, but I dont like
getting messages I dont understand.

Thanks in advance.

Phil
