Got an ok on this. I had just killed it before I got your reply.

Yeah. It's saying unable to connect to display "". (xset fs+ dir and xset
fs rehash).

Yeah. KRUD7 :}
But I just checked and X wasn't upgraded. It's saying 3.3.6. I just did
the standard upgrade option last night nothing special, CD boot and
clicked upgrade. But I do have some -4 files in there.
As far as restarting, I haven't been able to even start it. The last time
I used X on this machine was Nov and everything was working that I know
of.
I have two startx scripts and both are using the same version. The issue
gets a little deeper, after the install my cd driver died. Can't even get
in there at the moment to force an install.
