[lug] strange gimp behavior?

I'm running 1.1 that came from the helix gnome

[201] ~ $ rpm -qa|grep gimp
gimp-1.1.26-0_helix_1
gimp-perl-1.1.26-0_helix_1


I'm using redhat 6.2.
