Only problem is, how does one recognize an undesired robot?

Googlebot is welcome and they respect robots.txt, so it seems, but if some 
other creature ignores it and you want to feed it sweeties, how do you 
distinct the access from a regular surfer going after a page? Would need to 
have a list of known bad guys and compare against, I guess?

But then, if the list is publicly accessible the bad bots look if they are 
in there and disguise.

One would need to be member of a white hat brotherhood maintaining such 
information giving it out only to members sworn in by blood?
