In an effort to disable finger, I've commented out the service in
/etc/inet.conf:

# finger stream tcp nowait nobody /usr/sbin/tcpd in.fingerd -w

then issued "kill -HUP `cat /var/run/inetd.pid`"

but finger still responds.

Seems very strange.
