Ok, sorry it took so long. My ISP kept disconnecting me while uploading.
On top of that I edit web pages by hand and test it on two local mirrors
before I upload.
1.40.5 is out, it has vastly improved frame rates. Thanks to Kelly Brock
for some extremely nice templates. They'll be quite easy to use compared
to old stuff for many new purposes.
As a sample, one machine I run in 24 bpp mode, it gets 19 fps. With this
patch, it runs around 33 fps continuously. Some things like lens flare
slow it, but mostly it is a 50% boost. Prior to networking and scanner
images running, this same machine gets a short burst at 98 fps. Since
the scanner and other image blitting is not yet optimized, and since
network is not yet threaded, I can see a possibility of this kind of
blitting bring framerates up another 50% or more.
Please post any notes or observations that might help in improving it
further. Check the description on the 1.40 area of downloads at
http://www.battlefieldlinux.com
FYI, I posted a patch to go from 1.40.4 to 1.40.5 for those who have
1.40.4 already, but you'll have to add a couple of sym links that route.
