[lug] alternatives to nfs/nis on linux

What are the alternatives to NFS and NIS on Linux?  They seem to have a
long history of security problems but they still get used.  What
alternatives are there to this system that works well on Linux?  

Also, is FreeS/WAN the de facto implementation of IPSec on Linux?
