I don't know if anyone responded seriously (I did see the post about the 2600
magazine)...
2600 is an "organization" of phreakers. The name is taken from the test
frequency that the old telephone switches would respond to. Basically, you
could pick up your phone, and send a frequency of 2600 Hz at the dialtone. The
switch would take your phone line, and put it into test mode. At that point,
anything was possible ;-)
