I guess we are still rebooting Windows 2000 about as as often as we
always rebooted Windows. I wonder how they ever get their 99.99999%
uptime if all those security patches requrie reboots.

Qchains of love
The latest wave of Microsoft security patches gives me
an excuse to write about a nifty tool I started using
recently to speed up the process of applying patches
to Windows 2000 systems. It's called Qchain, and it
allows system administrators to apply multiple
hot-fixes at one pass without rebooting the system. I
think I saved about a day's worth of reboots last
month by using Qchain when I was building a server.
It's like having the ability to create your own
Service Pack in between Microsoft's official releases.
Check out Microsoft's TechNet page for Qchain and the
latest hot-fixes.
P.J. Connolly (pj_connolly at infoworld.com) would rather
watch paint dry or read transcripts of Congressional
hearings than reboot a server a dozen times. Get this
