apache_root/bin/apachectl restart

Should clean it up. As Dan pointed out you don't mention how you
restarted apache. The error hints to the above command so I don't know if
you've tried that.

Always run

apache_root/bin/apachectl configtest

To check your syntax. Warning: there are some things it misses. If I
remember correctly, pointing to a dir that doesn't exist is passed by the
test.
