[lug] rpm database corruption

I seemed to have corrupted my rpm database somehow.  I can't install rpm's
anymore.  Can I reinitialize it and then rebuild it using

rpm --initdb
rpm --rebuilddb

Will this help?  Will it hurt?  I expect to update this system in the near
future anyway, but I have a few things I'd like to install before then via
rpm if possible.
