Be careful - if you presently have this file and it contains more than
just the command to start your window manager (as does mine) then you'll
loose your config info.  Better to manaully edit it in that case.

My SuSE install refers to an enironment variable to choose which wm to
start - from my .xinitrc:

#
# finally start the window manager
#
exec $WINDOWMANAGER
