I've used things like

\oddsidemargin -5pt
\evensidemargin -5pt

Page 182 of the Latex book has a list of all the parameters that can be
set.

There's also a nice page that shows all of the parameters that can be set
on the page along with their default values in the documentation for the
package fancyhdr.sty
