[lug] java2-compatible?

Ok, I'm told I need a java2 compatible java environment. My current 1.1
is not satisfactory, I'll either rip it out or install alongside it. But
looking at Blackdown, which is supposed to have a java2 version, I see
1.x versions. Is jdk1.2 "java2 compatible"? I know somewhere in there is
a transition that does some sort of play on numbering/versioning. If not
1.2, will it literally be named something like jdk2.0?

The reason I'm looking at the blackdown version is because I've heard a
number of nice things about some of the widgets and extra classes that
come with blackdown, but if something else is better, I'll use that.
